Happy Chinese New Year All
Well its been a long while since this site was updated and many things have happened since then. I've crashed into a barricade, got electrocuted a few times, cooked a variety of meals, test drove a huge MPV, renewed my geeky interest in Magic the Gathering, drank more alcohol, met my dogs, met my mates, left tyre marks on the NKVE, and wrote about how people who create TV shows like Buffy control our lives.
Well since that is a lot of informationa and I doubt I could write all that in my current state of mine (Currently in an alchohol induced trance). So I'll start with the newest event so far in my memory. Chinese New Year is suppose to be one of the biggest celebrations in the Chinese new Year calender. I have heard many stories, some more believable then the rest. The one I believe and I could be wrong, is that Chinese new Year is the celebration of the end of winter. But then again I heard another saying that Nian (Year) was the name of a dragon which terrorises the people of China every year and after defeating the dragon, the people celebrated that time every year by called it Xing Nian (New Year). But do we really care about that?
Ask most of the kids in Malaysia and the main thing for them during this time is the Ang Pau's (red packets of money). Then for the single people it is a time to get back with the family and share all that happened during the past year. For the Elderly, it is an excuse to get the family back from all over the place. Of course for the shopping malls, this is just another reason to put up sales and gain more Money (perfect example of Marxist theories in practice)Sadly, there are some bad things that come about this time of year. Stupid drivers who think that by speeding and cutting people on the road will drastically speed up their journey to their hometowns. This is a clear example of how over confident people can be on the road. They must learn that passing the driving exam is just the first step to becoming a better driver.
But enough about that. To celebrate the eve (well techically the eve of CNY eve) I invited a few mates over for dinner. It was a simple meal consisting of just rice, with Cik Kut Teh, Beef in Sweet and Sour sauce, and Deep fried prawns. As stupid as it may sound, I must admit it was the very first time I chopped an entire chicken. Let's just say the chicken didn't turn out very well with oddly shaped peices all over the soup, but the meal itself wasn't that bad :). Total of 7 people turned up including me. All it all it was a good nice :)
Now I have bored the lot of you, I shall just put a picture here and wish you all again a VERY happy Chinese New Year.
