Notice: Site In Serious Need of Updating

I really do apologize for the lack of updating on the site. As usual I blame it on the very reason I came to this country in the first case. The final essays may be insignificant to others (especially those born here), but I unlike them do not have the luxury of spending my entire x’mas holidays lazing around and rushing to the library 3 days before the deadline to scribble down as many quotes they can get.

So while their sitting at Starbucks drinking a glamorized cup of coffee and imitating the high life in Sex and the City, I’ve been well … writing about Sex and the City. Now I know it’s weird and my lecturers agree as to why the heck would a man who epitomizes masculinity want to write about the very problem he and his believes caused. (Feminism for you who don’t know is about striving for equality in a patriarchal society, at lest as a social movement.)

If that wasn’t bad enough, I had to analyze Buffy the Vampire Slayer as my final essay topic for Communication and Signification. Now I’m hardly an academic person. Give me a choice between writing a TV script and making one up on the spot I’ll choose the latter. It’s just not my style looking at books all day long and argue over whose theories can be best used to describe a certain event.

This brings me to my next problem with their educational system. Now I’m no expert when it comes to TV/film production. I have only been a director for 3 months and the experience I got were mostly running away from security officers in shopping malls and shooting in empty roads where police regularly patrol. But I do know that if you were to shoot a TV/film production you’ll definitely need more than one take. Especially if you have an inexperienced actor, camera crew, and sound engineer.

The whole UK educational system focuses almost entirely on academic knowledge. This is by no means a bad thing, but if you just leave out the ‘practical’ basics, nothing is going to turn out. In TV class we were asked to imagine the sky was the limit. Well as true as that may be in the world of TV, we can’t do that with just a basic camcorder and a tripod. Also shooting without gloves in the middle of winter doesn’t really help in balancing the camera.

Now I’ll be leaving back for Malaysia this coming Saturday. This sadly is the reason I cannot update the site. I will however do a major reconstruction of the design when I get back and perhaps update it with bits of Malaysian life for the fellow UK students who have shown interest in the blog.

Till the next time, I wish you readers a Merry Christmas and a wondrous New Year.
